Deadline: 12 June 2006

Conceptual,
empirical, and policy-oriented papers are invited from researchers,
development practitioners, and policy-makers that discuss the
inter-relatedness of poverty, conflict, and state
fragility from a micro-economic perspective. Papers exploring
the conceptual foundation of the term “fragile states”
including how to define and measure “fragility”
are also welcome.
Preference will be given to full papers of up to 20 pages, but
shorter draft papers or detailed proposals for papers (of 5-7
pages) will also be considered.
Organisers hope that the conference will generate a mix of academic
and experiential papers that advance both research and practice
in the domain of poverty reduction in fragile states. Increased
collaboration between international researchers on the conference
theme is an important objective.
Submissions (with
a short CV) should be emailed in Word or PDF to Christine
Binzel, no later than June 12, 2006.
Authors of selected papers will be notified by June 30, 2006.
Completed papers are due by September 30, 2006.
Funding is available for selected presenters.
All conference papers will be posted online.
USAID will also publish conference papers in an edited volume.
A selection of papers will be considered for a special edition
of an academic journal in the field of development studies.
