The
BCID's DFID funded research project 'Goodbye to Projects?'
explores the institutional impacts of adopting a sustainable
livelihoods approach.
The first working paper is in the form of an annotated bibliography,
which has been produced from a broad sweep of the livelihoods
and development literature. It covers the development of the
livelihoods approach, and the implications for mananging interventions
using the livelihoods and other new approaches such as SWAps
and a 'rights-based' approach.
It
also takes a more detailed look at some aspects of the livelihoods
approach, in particular the definition of capital assets and
the role of participation, in order to explore how such terms
are being used.
It
is not intended to be a complete document in the sense that
it will grow into further editions from suggestions from our
partners and others.
