The United Kingdom
Forum for International Education and Training (UKFIET)
are
pleased to announce the 'Oxford' International Conference
on Education and Development in September 2003. The event
is a forum for professionals from poorer and richer parts
of the world involved in Education and Development; issues
around poverty and livelihoods are themes which run throughout
the conference.
Out
of the six themes covered by the conference, issues of particular
interest from a livelihoods perspective include:
-
Assessing the social, economic and political impact of education:
Educational policy is generally based around assumptions
about the relationship between human capital and economic
growth, but this session aims to broaden the debate to include
evaluation of the impact of education on a wider range of
development goals, such as well-being, democratisation,
social stability and improved gender relations.
- Measurement
and learning: achievement beyond the mainstream (for its
focus on non-formal and adult education, including vocational
education).
