Equity and Livelihood Security

The paper primarily confines itself to the economic aspects, i.e. the issues related to equity in access to resource (credit) and resultant income enhancement so that the livelihood security is addressed in a sustainable manner. Taking cognisance of resource allocation and access, Micro Finance sector strategy paper defines, equity as "the judicious and democratic control and sharing of the productive resources (capital) by all the members and sharing of the profit, if any, in proportion to their transactions". It argues that equitable access to all the necessary production inputs and services including credit is a prerequisite for the success of any production - oriented programme. Fulfilment of this requirement helps not only in improving income distribution but also in increasing employment (Katar Singh).
