date posted : March 2008

This online resource (www.livelihood.wur.nl) was created to support livelihoods modules run within two masters courses held at the Wageningen University:

  • International Agriculture

  • The site also serves to encourage critial reflection on the more methodological dimensions on livelihoods research.

It offers a clear and easy to navigate introduction to Livelihoods Approaches and could serve as a valuable entry point for those wishing to explore Livelihoods. It aims to provide learners with:

    • An understanding of the livelihoods framework, its components and its benefits
    • The ability to examine livelihoods

    • The ability to link contemporary issues of livelihoods to theoretical debates in different disciplines (sociology /anthropology, economics, ecology, et cetera).

    • A better understanding of the effects, interactions and impacts of different external influences on rural livelihoods

    • The ability to consider what kind of interventions contribute to the sustainability of rural livelihoods.
