study focuses on Malawi as a representative
case bringing together existing, fragmented, knowledge to
arrive at a comprehensive picture of the consequence
of HIV/AIDS on livelihoods, the economy and poverty reduction.
This marries together the macro and micro scale and calls
upon both qualitative and quanitative data. PDF
The pupose of this study is twofold:
i)
to improve our understanding of the consequences of HIV/AIDS
on the economy, livelihoods and poverty of Malawi specifically
with a view to guide policy.
ii)To use Malawi as a case study for drawing more general
conclusions on the consequence of HIV/AIDS on the economy
and on poverty that may have a bearing on other countries
in the region.

HIV/AIDS and poverty are mutually reinforcing
HIV/AIDS has a severe impact on agriculture and
food security
HIV/AIDS is very much a gender issue
