The
UK Science Technology and Development Forum are organising
their 6th International conference in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania
to be held from the 12-15 April 2004. The title of the conference
is “The Role of Science and Technology for Poverty Alleviation”.
The aim of this conference is to discuss and debate how science
and technology can make or has made an impact in improving
the livelihoods of under privileged people and reducing the
problems of world poverty.
The conference will take forward some of the developmental
challenges identified at the World Summit on Sustainable Development
(Johannesburgh September 2002), such as, strategies to dealing
with an ever increasing demand for food, water, shelter, sanitation,
energy, health services etc. Science and technology has and
will play an important role in meeting these challenges. The
conference will thus provide an opportunity to take forward
people-centered science and technological approaches to meeting
these challenges – all with a string focus on the implications
for sustainable livelihoods, gender issues, the poor and vulnerable
and education.
The conference is open to social scientists, development experts,
field workers, academics, engineers and natural scientists.
If
