The Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development
(SARD) Initiative, facilitated by the Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations, announces a call
for Good Practice case studies for a Compendium of Demonstrated
Good Practices for SARD.
The
Compendium will be a collaborative piece, featuring submissions
from different organizations, and be reported to the United
Nations Commission of Sustainable Development in its 16 and
17th sessions (2008-2009) when Agriculture and Rural Development
will be on the Agenda.
This will be an important opportunity to put forward evidence
and impact related to SARD good practices that might inform
CSD decisions.
Researchers and practitioners working to contribute to achieve
SARD and interested in proposing good practices for the Compendium
should provide relevant documentation
by 23 February 2008 covering the following:
• Time frame and name of the project/programme
fostering the practice
• Specification of donors, implementing agencies and
beneficiaries of the practice (number of individuals, households,
communities)
• Background/problem statement
• Approach followed
• Innovative elements of the practice
• Impacts on natural resource base and livelihood of
users (quantifiable as much as possible)
• General success factors
• Constraints and fostering conditions for replication
of the practice
• Problems remaining to be resolved
Of particular interest are practices that
i) have been widely up-scaled/replicated
ii) have a strong potential to be up-scaled
or iii) have been locally up-scaled through
spontaneous replication, but could be disseminated more broadly
with minimum input. For these reasons, additional information
on the subject would be of great value.
All contributions will be reviewed according to completeness,
quality, scale of impact, relevance to SARD and the three
dimensions of sustainability. The technical and editorial
committee will write a Good Practice case study from the documentation
submitted and may request revisions prior to publication.
