The
Africa-based, globally networked International Livestock
Research Institute (ILRI) helps reduce poverty hunger
and environmental degradation by enhancing animal agriculture
in developing countries. ILRI positions its work at the dynamic
interface of poverty alleviation and sustainable livestock
livelihoods. Our staff work in partnerships and alliances
with hundreds of organisations in developed and developing
countries, including some of the finest universities and research
institutions in the world. ILRI’s headquarters are in
Nairobi, Kenya, with a second principal campus in Addis Ababa,
Ethiopia. Out staff are also based in 7 partner institutions
in other parts of Africa and in Asia and Latin America. We
employ more than 700 staff from about 40 countries and are
one of 15 centres around the world sponsored by the Consultative
Group on International Agricultural Research.
The
Overseas Development Institute (ODI) is Britain's leading
independent think-tank on international development and humanitarian
issues. Their mission is to inspire and inform policy and
practice which lead to the reduction of poverty, the alleviation
of suffering and the achievement of sustainable livelihoods
in developing countries. ODI's work centres on its research
and policy groups and programmes and the present post would
link with staff in the RAPID programme (Research and Policy
in Development).
The
project:
ILRI and ODI are embarking on DFID funded project seeking
to identify and institutionalise innovative research and development
mechanisms and approaches that lead to pro-poor policy outcomes.
A series of case studies focusing on specific areas of policy
change and in some cases specific projects including in their
objectives impacts at policy level, will be carried out with
emphasis on Eastern Africa. A major focus will be on identifying
how policymakers source information that contributes to the
policy process as well as the roles of research vis-à-vis
non research actors and on communications between them. The
case studies will provide a framework for the institutions
involved as well as research institutions generally to learn
and adopt new ways of working to achieve their goals
