DFID
has just released a draft consultation document to look at
issues related to energy for poverty eradication. These are
particularly important in the light of the critical role that
provision of energy services plays in helping to achieve the
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The paper proposes that, because of the importance of energy
services, development agencies and developing country governments
should adopt a new approach to energy provision, one in which
energy is, from the outset, fully integrated into all development
plans.
DFID
welcome your comments on the document, particularly:
-
what the key issues are in helping to speed up access to
energy for achievement of the MDGs.
-
examples to illustrate how energy can facilitate the achievement
of the MDGs
-
DFID also welcome your views on the role they can most effectively
take.

paper can be downloaded from the EnPov web site at: http://www.dfid.gov.uk/pubs/files/energyforthepoor.pdf
