NR International (V Nelson and S Braden) completed a project on public participation in rural energy policy-making in Malawi in 1998 (funded by the DFID forestry research programme). We used video supported research and communication by villagers of rural energy and livelihood issues and used video to support
dialogue with policy-makers. The ability of policy-makers to respond to views from the local level has formed the basis of a follow-up project by S Braden/Action Aid/DFID in Malawi and Pakistan.
