On
the IDS Livelihoods Connect site I have just found that there
are projects,"to demonstrate a practical sustainable
livelihoods approach to rural energy".
For 8 years, I and others have been trying to show one way
of bringing a little electricity to the rural poor at an affordable
price.
Despite great efforts, we cannot get a hearing from the 'powers
that be'! Just gentle brush-offs and no discussion.
We are not claiming that we have the whole answer to the rural
energy problem, just one. Our contribution may prove be minimal
but some projects are underway in Africa and Nepal and, with
a little help, there could be many others.
Our experience is mirrored by other projects in the energy
field!
