The
external consultation for the third White Paper begins on
the 19th January and runs until the 7th April.
The
new White Paper will focus on three central themes:
- what
can we do to reduce poverty and deliver development more
quickly;
- what
policies are needed in the UK and internationally to create
the conditions necessary for reducing poverty;
- how
can the international development system be reformed so
that it delivers better results for development.
The
consultation will be based around a consultation document
(PDF) and
a series of six speeches on White Paper topics, to be given
by the Secretary of State. The consultation document and how
to input is available at http://www.dfid.gov.uk/wp2006/
A copy of the consultation document has been sent to the DSA
and will be made available on the DSA website. After each
speech event, a transcript of the Secretary of States
speech and a list of further questions for consideration will
be made available on the DFID website. DFID would like to
receive comments on the questions set out in the consultation
document and the questions posted on the DFID website after
each speech. The deadline for comments is 7 April. Responses
received by 17 March or earlier will allow DFID to come back
to you with any follow-up questions we may have.
The Guardian will also be posting the consultation document
on their website, a news blog (online discussion) and an interview
with Hilary Benn. They will also post each of the speeches
as they are made encouraging people to participate in the
debate.
