Evaluation
of a livelihoods approach in assessing the introduction of
poverty-focused aquaculture into a large-scale irrigation
system in Tamil Nadu, India (Brugere, C and Lingard, J / 2001).
Presented at the 74th EAAE Seminar on Livelihoods
and Rural Poverty: Technology, Policy and Institutions, 12-15
September 2001, Imperial College at Wye
The
paper presents a livelihoods methodology of an experimental
research project on the integration of aquaculture into a
large-scale irrigation system, in a drought-prone area of
Southern India. It aims to discuss, through presentation of
a case study, the advantages and disadvantages of using a
livelihoods approach to determine target communities and resource-poor
groups for potential poverty-focused aquaculture interventions.
The
paper was anonymously reviewed and presented at the 74th seminar
of the European Association of Agricultural Economics Seminar
in September 2001. The livelihoods work carried out was part
of multi-disciplinary research project "Integration of
Aquaculture within Irrigation Systems" (KAR 7123) funded
by DFID.
