Use of Sustainable Livelihoods Approaches

The projects have involved Sustainable Livelihoods Training to orient local project staff to the approach, and training materials are being developed to assist these staff to train other government staff in the approach.

The SL approach is being used in carrying out a Post Harvest Overview of the sector to help establish a policy framework and begin to provide a structure to guide future intervention. the Post-Harvest Livelihoods Analysis Tool (PHLAT) was also developed around the SL approach. The overview and analysis will aid the identification of marginalised groups within the post-harvest sector and base-lining of livelihood assets. They will direct the selection of relevant sub-sector studies focused on areas of particular importance to marginalised groups and areas where there are significant informational gaps. They will aid the identification of type and nature of forces giving rise to change within the sector and their impact.

The project will also include implementation of livelihood analysis studies of marginalised groups within the post-harvest sector and an assessment of the impact of change upon marginalised groups.
