Use
of Sustainable Livelihoods Approaches
Sustainable
livelihoods concepts and approaches lie at the heart of this
facility, whose aim is the development of demand-driven service
provision and effective stakeholder participation in policy.
Currently the facility supports: strengthening the poverty
focus of the agriculture strategy and its implementation as
the core policy framework guiding MOFA's activities; mainstreaming
gender and livelihoods analysis throughout MOFA; development
of the new agricultural extension policy, including the framework
for multiple service provision partnerships; analysis of district
level information needs under decentralisation; supporting
a livelihoods approach to livestock service provision; supporting
research from a livelihoods perspective.
The facility forms part of DFID's support to the development
of a sector-wide approach in agriculture, and is complemented
and informed by a further key rural livelihoods programme
component working at district level on similar issues in policies,
mechanisms, structures and processes.
The programme and this facility are in the early stages of
implementation [design] but are expected to offer useful
lessons on working within the 'policies institutions and
processes box' and on macro-micro linkages.
