A number of organisations are now exploring opportunities for
adaptation and application of SL approaches in a UK context. Workshop reports,
and lessons learnt from these organisations are detailed below.

- A Commission using action research
to examine
and promote ways in which rural communities across
the UK and Ireland can influence decision making around

is a pilot project which aims to explore how men and women
in 24 low income households in Thornaby construct their

The
Countryside Agency
have been exploring ways of adapting the SL approach
to add value to their Market Town Health Check approach.
They have also organised two events (with DFID) to explore
cross-over between international and UK development
approaches: one on SL and one looking at participation.
Market Town Regeneration: Adapting
to Local Realities
The Healthcheck outlines a number of stages for
creating a community-led vision and regeneration action
plan. This paper presents a case study from New Romney
where the strengths of the Healthcheck were built on
using SLAs

Sustainable Livelihoods within a UK context (June
2002)
Report from a seminar in which participants shared their
experiences of using SLAs and other similar approaches
in the UK, followed by discussions in plenary.
