Canadian Women's Foundation

The Canadian Women's Foundation (CWF) is a national public foundation dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls through economic and social change.

Background to papers

These papers explore the process by which women use enterprise development as a vehicle to make change in their lives.

They outline work done on poverty alleviation, and present a comprehensive, holistic approach to moving women out of poverty. They show that a woman's journey out of poverty must be self directed, but assisted, so that women can over time build a range of assets that will support self sufficiency.

The Women and Economic Development Consortium (WEDC), a grant-making partnership led by CWF has published this research in order to capture the learning from nine model economic development projects funded by WEDC between 1997 and 2002.
