A
series of training materials and case studies base on an SL
training course hosted in Vietnam in 2003.
Background
In
October to November 2003 two training workshops were organized to
introduce the Sustainable Livelihoods (SL) approach in Vietnam.
These were part of a series of workshops that DFID has been supporting
for partners in several countries worldwide. Although a number of
research and development projects have been using the SL approach
in Vietnam in recent years, this was the first event designed to
systematically adapt SL thinking and practice to the Vietnamese
context and to conduct training with a range of partners and stakeholder
groups.
The workshops were co-hosted by DFID and the Ministry of Planning
and Investment (MPI) and formed one of the activities of the Partnership
to Assist the Poorest Communes (PAC). They were run with support
from the Centre for International Development Training (CIDT) of
the University of Wolverhampton in UK, and the Learning Resource
Centre and Localized Poverty Reduction Centre of Hue University
in Vietnam.
