A Livelihoods System Approach in Project Planning

A short manual on how to use a livelihoods approach for planning, implementing and monitoring community development projects.

 Background

This manual describes how a Livelihoods Approach can be integrated into the cycle of project management. It contains a planning matrix which illustrates application of the approach at the stages of planning, implementation and monitoring.

The manual was developed to suit the specific requirements of the Integrated Food Security Programme in Trincomalee (IFSP) Sri Lanka. The tool was developed by the Centre for Advanced Training in Rural Development, Humboldt-University, Berlin. The project was sponsored from 1998 to 2003 by the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ).
