khanya -aicdd (Formerly Khanya - managing rural change)

khanya -aicdd (African Institute for Community-Driven Development) is an African center of expertise on community-driven development and sustainable livelihoods. It was established in February 2005 evolving from Khanya - managing rural change, a developmental consultancy that had been operating for 6 years in different countries of Africa. The Institute was established to take Khanya's work to a new level, consolidating the methodologies and our role as a partner in promoting innovative approaches to community-driven development and livelihoods in Africa.

Khanya-aicdd's vision is to be a world class Institute making a major contribution to people-centred development in Africa.

Its mission is working with partners to transform development systems to support the livelihoods of poor people in Africa. To do this they facilitate action-learning processes linking government, communities, civil society and business drawing from global development thinking.

Khanya-aicdd has particular experience in:

  • Action-research/learning
  • Facilitation and consultancy about poverty and change internationally
  • Building capacity to promote the development of livelihoods approaches and local governance
  • Implementing innovations
  • Sharing experience internationally and building coalitions

They apply this in their practice area of decentralisation, development planning, decentralised services, community-based management, local economic development, and food security.
