  Secure Water

The Secure Water research programme seeks to increase understanding among interveners working on water-livelihood linkages in order to enhance their capacity to eliminate poverty in demand-responsive approaches (DRA). The aim is to develop SL-based decision-support tools for use in donor country strategy papers and government and NGO sector development plans in five target countries: India, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Malawi and Sudan, by June 2004.

Secure Water draws on the SL framework and the Household Economy approach (HEA) to understand the nature of water-livelihood changes at the household level and best practices for the elimination of poverty through water supply interventions. In particular the programme will examine how livelihood outcomes are affected by changes in the nature of water supply at the household level, and the extent to which these factors are currently being addressed. The programme is co-ordinated by the Overseas Development Instiute (ODI) and partners, and is funded by DFID.
