General information about the organisation

Poverty reduction and sustainable development are the principal tasks of the SDC. To facilitate the achievement of these goals, the SDC focuses on 10 thematic priorities. In each thematic domain, a sub-goal is targeted while ever keeping in mind the fact that the priority themes are intimately linked to one another. The 10 themes include:

Cross Cutting themes:

"Livelihoods for Equity" is a unit in the Social Development Department (SoDev) which also includes: Water, Health and Education. Social Development aims to tackle the causes of poverty and exclusion. Without social justice and a narrowing of the growing gap in distribution between different societies, states, genders and population groups, there can be neither peace nor political and economic stability. Social development is a pre-requisite for the sustainable social and economic development of a country.

The Livelihoods for Equity unit is responsible for the topics of: Livelihoods, Empowerment, and Pro-poor policy issues. The thematic responsibility include: to advise ,to promote learning and exchange on experiences among sdc staff , to formulate internal policy and to provide methodological guidance. The SoDev also contribute to the Poverty-Wellbeing Network.
