information about the organisation
Poverty reduction and sustainable development are the principal
tasks of the SDC. To facilitate the achievement of these goals,
the SDC focuses on 10 thematic priorities. In each thematic
domain, a sub-goal is targeted while ever keeping in mind
the fact that the priority themes are intimately linked to
one another. The 10 themes include:

"Livelihoods
for Equity" is a unit in the Social Development Department
(SoDev) which also includes: Water, Health and Education.
Social Development aims to tackle the causes of poverty and
exclusion. Without social justice and a narrowing of the growing
gap in distribution between different societies, states, genders
and population groups, there can be neither peace nor political
and economic stability. Social development is a pre-requisite
for the sustainable social and economic development of a country.
The Livelihoods for Equity unit is responsible for the topics
of: Livelihoods, Empowerment,and Pro-poor policy issues. The
thematic responsibility include: to advise ,to promote learning
and exchange on experiences among sdc staff , to formulate
internal policy and to provide methodological guidance.
The
SoDev also contribute to the Poverty-Wellbeing
Network.
