The
Livestock Production Programme is one of ten research
programmes funded by UK's Department for International Development
(DFID) under the Rural Natural Resources Research Strategy
1995-2006 (link
to RNRRS). LPP is managed by NR International. It funds,
manages and promotes research aimed at improving people's
livelihoods through livestock.
The
new site is designed to share the outputs from their 10 year
research programme. Several Research themes include a Sustainable
Livelihoods element:
- Pro-poor
technical/husbandry interventions that lead to improved
performance of livestock and increased contribution to the
livelihoods of poor livestock keepers
- Policies
at national, district and village levels which create a
more favourable livestock rearing environment for the resource-poor
- Identity
and empowerment of institutions which represent the needs
of poor livestock keepers
A
future research strategy has been identified which highlights
issues such as:
- Activities
of livestock practices in urban environments in five East
African cities
- The
impact of gender relations in livestock keeping in East
Africa and India.
