Food Security Analysis Unit - Somalia |
| The
Food Security Analysis Unit (FSAU) provides comprehensive
and in-depth information and analysis on the food security
situation and nutrition status of people living in Somalia.
By understanding the underlying causes of food insecurity
and the impact of emerging and evolving food security problems,
FSAU can provide technical assistance into both short term
emergency food relief interventions and medium to long term
planning and programming (by UN agencies, donors, NGO's and
the Somali people) aimed at strengthening Somali coping capacity.
Analysis is based on qualitative and quantitative information
collected on a monthly basis, through a network of experienced
and qualified Somali monitors (23 Food Security Analysts and
12 Nutritionists). FSAU has been using the SCF-UK Household
Economy Analysis to analyze food insecurity. They have recently
adopted an innovative approach to livelihood analysis drawing
on a numerous existing approaches.
The
Food Security Analysis Unit (FSAU) is managed and implemented
by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) with funding
from the European Commission (EC) and from USAID for the nutrition
component of FSAU.
