The Afghanistan Research And Evaluation Unit (AREU)

AREU is an independent research organisation that conducts and facilitates action-oriented research and learning that informs and influences policy and practice. It is currently the only independent research organisation headquartered in Afghanistan. This allows AREU to ensure that its findings are relevant and inform and influence the process of change taking place on the ground.

Research themes include urban livelihoods, rural livelihoods, land, water, learning from NSP elections, urbanisation, urban governance and vulnerability, policy processes, health and education, (trans)-national networks, gender and local-level decision-making, and political economy.

AREU also actively promotes a culture of research and learning by strengthening analytical capacity in Afghanistan and creating opportunities for analysis, thought and debate.
