| The
Asian Development Bank is a multilateral development financial institution
owned by 66 members, 47 from the region and 19 from other parts of the globe.
ADB's vision is a region free of poverty. Its mission is to help its developing
member countries reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of their citizens.
The Asian Development Bank recognises that, in addressing poverty, it is important
to understand the multiple aspects of livelihood assets. The Asian Development
Bank has applied the livelihoods framework in some projects and evaluation work.
For example, the Tonle Sap Initiative has applied the sustainable livelihood framework
comprehensively where livelihood assets are being fundamentally affected by unfavorable
trends in the basin of the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Several
evaluation studies conducted by the Operations Evaluation Department have also
used the livelihood framework as part of their evaluation approach.
