mission of NIRD is to
facilitate rural development through government and NGO activities.
NIRD is India's apex body for undertaking training,
research, action research and consultancy functions
in rural development. It is an autonomous
organisation supported by the Ministry of Rural Development
of the Government of India.
Training
Objectives
- To
discuss concepts of poverty and livelihood strategies
of sustainable livelihood promotion.

To provide a better understanding of various livelihood
rights, approaches and best practices of
livelihoods options of rural women in developing
countries.

To deliberate and identify actions for gender
mainstreaming towards sustainable development.
- To
facilitate identification and sharing of viable models of
women empowerment in the developing countries.

- Poverty
- Concept, indicators, measurement and feminisation of poverty
and strategies for poverty alleviation.
- Livelihoods
- Concept, dimensions, rights, approaches, best
practices, models, farm and non-farm livelihoods,
livelihood analysis, microfinance interventions,
micro enterprises and appropriate technologies
of sustainable livelihoods.
- Gender
and Empowerment - Gender sensitivity, female
inclusive development, gender sensitive interventions,
empowerment approaches and models, institutional support
and networking. Exposure visits to model projects
and programmes of livelihood, security and poverty alleviation
in India.
- Action
plan for female empowerment and promotion of sustainable
livelihoods. Based on the exposure and interactions, the
participants will be helped to formulate country
specific plans for promotion of sustainable livelihoods
and gender mainstreaming in their respective countries.
Who Should Attend
The
training programme is primarily designed for senior
and middle level Development Personnel form Ministries
of Agriculture, Rural Development, Social Welfare, Industries,
Education and Human Resource Development, Local Self Governance,
officers from financial Institutions and Senior Personnel
from training and research organisations engaged in
developmental activities for rural livelihoods. All
the participants are expected to bring their country
papers detailing the status of women and gender mainstreaming
and women empowerment approaches and poverty reduction
programmes of respective countries.
