The
series Rats! is a 2-part series of half-hour programmes first
broadcast on the BBC World Service One Planet strand in June
2005. It looks at the relationship between humans and rats
in the United States and Africa, examining both positive and
negative aspects of this relationship - from the fear of rats
and the transmission of disease to the use of rats to locate
landmines.
The
series draws on an EU-funded project, RATZOOMAN,
which involves a large coalition of partners in Africa and
Europe. It was made as a collaboration between the BBC and
the Natural Resources Institute,
with support from other coalition partners, in particular
the National Institute of Health in Mozambique and Sokoine
University of Agriculture in Tanzania.
