Community-managed Rice Banks: Lessons from Laos Through an investigation of rice banks in South-East Asia as a means of addressing seasonal food crises facing poor communities, lessons have been identified that poorest don't benefit unless procedures: are compatible with community capacity; are simple and easy to use; use local language and have been developed with the community's active involvement. |

The strengths of livelihoods approaches i.e. usefulness in assessing, monitoring and mapping food insecurity and vulnerability are also the source of their major limitations.This study highlights that governments find it difficult to incorporate multi-dimensional analysis when programmes are organised sectorally through agencies. |

Multistakeholder Partnership in ICT4D: A Case Study of Village Phone Programme in Bangladesh
The Village Phone Programme, a partnership initiative between the private sector, microfinance institutions, not-profit organisations and local women entrepreneurs in Bangladesh is aimed at using the incidence of low teledensity to promote livelihoods for poor rural women.The programme now offers affordable cellular telephone service to 70 million rural people in 50 thousand villages in Bangladesh.

Migration & Development Linkage in Ecuador
What is the impact of 2.5 million Ecuadorians corresponding to 20 percent of the population who live abroad?Andrea Gallina from Roskilde University investigates how their remittances represented 5.8 percent of GDP in 2003 and were higher than the export revenues from bananas, cocoa, shrimps, tuna fish and fish, put together and second only to oil revenues. |

The use of livelihoods framework to assess the impacts of mine clearance has been shown to to highlight the wider context in which the laying of mines and contamination with explosive remants of war has affected communities.It encourages integrated thinking about the benefits of demining and the broader development opportunities and constraints.
